The Astor House Hotel was built in 1846 by British merchant Astor House Richards. With its Victorian and Baroque style architecture dating
back 161 years this was the first western hotel in China and has received guests such as Einstein and Charlie Chaplin. The high ceilings of the lobby embrace you as you enter the hotel and once inside your eyes are drawn upwards to the beautiful ceilings and ornate decorations. The dark wood stands out against the pale walls creating a dramatic impact.
The Astor House Hotel is just a five-minute walk from the Bund – the exclusive shopping and business address of Nanjing Road. The over sized rooms are luxurious with high ceilings and spectacular views. Dine at the Richard Restaurant for the perfectly prepared Szechuen dishes – pieces of art in themselves and a delight to the palate. Breakfast is served in the Peacock Hall – the first dance hall in China and now provides the space for elaborate banquets, weddings and breakfast each morning.
